Silent Key, Gordon Grant VE3DY, Charter Member of the OVMRC

Gordon Grant VE3DY was a founding member of the OVMRC and became a Silent Key on May 18 at the grand old age of 104. He passed away peacefully at the home he designed and build in 1962. Gord became a ham at the age of 15 in 1934.

Years later in the early days of the OVMRC, Gord was the activities organizer of the Club. It was a fun and active club back then when mobile operation was truly a focus of the Club and Gord would organize outings here and there where the club members and their families could socialize together. Also, in those days, 75m AM on 3760 KHz was the main mode and frequency of mobile activity in the Ottawa area.

Examples of social outings and camaraderie that Gord VE3DY was involved circa 1958:

Of Gord's many accomplishments he was most proud of his work at the NRC assisting in the radar project, the magnetron, which helped end the war in Europe during the Battle of Britain.
