This year's Field Day 2017 event takes place Saturday and Sunday, June 24 - 25.
The Combined Field Day operation involving members of the Ottawa Valley Mobile Club and Ottawa Amateur Radio Club will be conducted this year on the grounds of the RCMP Recreation and Conference Centre located just north of the Long Island Locks Station on the east side of the Rideau River. Access is by Nicolls Island Road west from River Road and north from the intersection of River Rd with Rideau Road.
The contest period is from 2 pm Saturday to 2 pm Sunday with setup and tear down before and after this period. Radio amateurs and friends intending to participate and/or help in the combined OVMRC/OARC Field Day should indicate by reply to Norm VE3LC at ve3lc@rac.ca stating when able to attend and how able to help and/or operate and preference CW or SSB. Folks should base their response on one or more time periods and activity so we can do proper provisioning for food and refreshments. The Field Day weekend time slots and activities can be divided into the following list:
- Friday afternoon/evening for setup of antennas and tents
- Saturday morning for setup and assembly and testing of stations.
- Saturday for operating
- Through the night for operating
- Sunday for operating.
- Sunday afternoon for tear down.
New radio amateurs within the last year qualify and are needed to operate the GOTA station. We also need a radio amateur with gear and experience to make at least one satellite contact. Amateur Radio will be on-display and will be promoted at this Field Day so we will also need non operating hams to explain amateur radio to other interested folks and children otherwise attending the camp grounds.
For talk-in to the site, we will endeavour to monitor repeater VE3TWO, 147.300 + (100 Hz tone required)
